SELF LOVE; SKIN DEEP
In support of my my Bachelors Degree, 9 months were spent planning, designing, making and researching for the degree collection.
Self Love; Skin Deep takes you on an odyssey towards self acceptance.
A knit focused textile collection, these designs find the beauty in the imperfect and embrace the insecurities that make up our unique selves.
This collection showcases the one of a kind qualities skin conditions hold. From a lifelong struggle with Psoriasis, I knew firsthand how difficult it can be to not only accept- but embrace something I always tended to cover up.
Bursting with rich, vibrant colours, ‘dopamine dressing’ is at the forefront of this collection, bringing a fresh, upbeat feel to a serious conversation.
With physical representation of psoriasis patches, windows onto the skin to highlight our ‘flaws’ and metaphorical approaches that represent the struggles of hiding and revealing our own skin, it is an ode to self love, a challenge to societal norms and an invitation to embrace the beauty that lies within our insecurities.
RESEARCH
DESIGN PROCESS
My design process centres around sampling and sketching my designs. Working best when I hop on a knitting machine and see where it takes me, working hands on with yarn is my favourite approach to creating interesting designs.
I also thrived in this collection using design development processes to plan out my final designs for my collection.
